Shontelle's popular video “Perfect Nightmare” was released in 2010. Work on her first studio album began in early 2008 and ended six months later. For the title of the release, the singer borrowed the word of her sound engineer, who, having fun with her producers, played with the name Shontel and came up with a non-trivial "Shontelligence" as a combination of the spirit of the words "Shontelle" and "intelligence". The Shontelligence album went on sale on November 18, 2008. The release charted at # 115 on the 'US Billboard 200' chart and sold 6,200 copies in its first week.
