His mother is Japanese and his father is half Korean; parents divorced when Miyavi was young. Later, he and his mother moved closer to relatives on the maternal side. Miyavi claims to have studied quite hard. In his youth, he was seriously fond of football, dreamed of a professional career, although at that time Japan did not have a team as such. At the age of 15, he suffered a leg injury, which was a turning point in his life. Outright bored, Miyavi decided to learn to play the guitar with his friends to fill his free time after failing in sports.
