The famous clip The Cure - "Close To Me" was released in 1985. The band emerged in the late 1970s during the post-punk boom and the new wave that replaced punk rock in the UK. Her debut was the single "Killing an Arab" and the album Three Imaginary Boys (1979). In the early 1980s, The Cure recorded nihilistic, dark and tragic pieces that were instrumental in shaping gothic rock. After the release of Pornography (1982), the group's continued existence was in doubt, and Smith decided to change its image. Beginning with the single "Let's Go to Bed" (1982), The Cure increasingly began to record light, pop-oriented songs.
