The famous Cesaria Evora video “Sodade” was released in 1992. Evora invariably appeared on the stage barefoot - this is a symbolic tribute to the poverty in which her countrymen on the Cape Verde Islands lived (and almost half continue to live). The singer has walked barefoot in life, for many years. She only put on sandals when traveling in temperate countries. The singer recorded her first solo album at the age of forty-three in Lisbon. The first producer of Evora was another famous singer - the Capelite Tito Paris.
