Abba
Legendary Swedish band that existed from 1972-1982. The band name is an abbreviation of the first letters of the band members' names. Their total circulation of sold copies of discs is more than 350 million worldwide! They are the first representatives of Europe, whose songs took first places in the charts of all the leading English-speaking countries. The founders of the group are Bjorn Ulveus and Benny Andersson, who met at a party in 1966 and immediately became friends. The other two participants - Anni-Fried Lingstad and Agneta Feltskog - were found by the guys themselves.
1970 saw the release of the band's first experimental album, Lycka, in Swedish.
The song "Ring Ring", which was released in 1973, was recorded in several languages at once. Thus, she topped the charts in Sweden, Austria, Holland, Belgium and South Africa.
In the same year the first full-length album "Ring Ring" was released, from which the song "Waterloo" won first place at Eurovision in 1974! Almost all of the songs on this album topped the charts in Sweden and other countries.
It got to the point that the group performed in front of the king of Sweden himself on the eve of the royal wedding!
In 1977 the band embarks on their first tour.
In January 1979, the guys took part in a UNICEF event in New York, and donated all the profits from the single "Chiquitita" to charity. In the fall of the same year, the group left for a North American tour.
Since the winter of 1982, the band's activity has fallen, and in December they released their last single "Thank You For The Music".
Their albums are still being reissued.
