Young Jeezy
Jeezy is a very solemn rapper. The rest of American hip-hoppers mostly focus on how many bucks they have, what kind of girls they ride in limousines, and how long their trunks are. All this is not alien and Jeezy - in one of his videos a black model even throws dollars into the camera - but there is also a certain sublimity in his work, which is not characteristic of tough guys from the black ghetto.
It is achieved through pompous composer moves that would be quite appropriate in symphonic soundtracks to Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings. However, all the orchestral parts of strings and winds are deliberately recorded on a synthesizer, which gives them some flavor of 90s music. And if you add a broken minimalistic R&B beat to this picture, you get a rather original arrangement.
Also, Jeezy doesn't always rap - sometimes he almost sings. Apparently, this was done so that the listener was constantly waiting for the rapper to give out something unusual, and buy new and new albums.
Jay Jenkins was born on October 12, 1977 in Columbia, South Carolina. He describes his childhood as "empty": his parents divorced when he was little, and he constantly had to wander from dad to mom - from one city to another. In 1994, like a real difficult teenager, he spent six months in a correctional institution, where he ended up for possession of drugs.
Obviously, after this episode, he took up his mind and decided to devote his life to music. Before the rapper signed record major Def Jam, he released two solo discs on independent labels and recorded one album with USDA and Boyz n da Hood. Jeezy's solo career is going quite well: every two years he consistently releases a new LP, the last of which was released in 2010.
The rapper is constantly collaborating with numerous artists. One of his most notable collaborations was the track "Amazing", recorded with Kanye West. It's a rather melodic composition, towards the end of which Jeezy hoarsely reads out the lyrics that “we are warriors, we will win, we make history”, etc. A very beautiful video was shot for the song with a lot of delightful landscapes, urban beauties and rap by the fire (which, among American hip-hoppers, apparently serves as an analogue of our bard song).
