Samantha Jade
Samantha Jade Gibbs (born April 18, 1987), better known as Samantha Jade, is an Australian singer, songwriter, actress and model from Perth, Western Australia. She has written songs for artists such as JoJo and Ashley Tisdale. On 20 November 2012, Jade won The_X_Factor Australia season 4, becoming the first woman to win the Australian version of the competition. She then signed to Sony Music Australia and released her debut single, "What You've Done to Me," which debuted at # 1 on the ARIA Singles Chart.
In 2002, a friend of Samantha sent a demo tape to a producer in Los Angeles, who subsequently suggested that she and her family move to Hollywood for a meeting. The next year, Jade's family moved there. In 2004, she signed with the American record label Jive Records and began recording a couple of demos of the songs.
Samantha's first songs were recorded by Conley Abrams in Los Angeles, but the songs were given to a label in Perth. In the same year, Samantha co-wrote the song "Secret Love" for the singer JoJo, which became the soundtrack for the cartoon "The Underwater Lads".
In 2006, Samantha recorded the title track "Step Up" for the film "Step Up," which was produced by rapper and producer Wycliff Gene. Despite the small number of promotions, the single entered the prestigious Billboard Pop 100 chart, peaking at # 92. In 2007, Samantha Jade released her next single, "Turn Around", which showed poor results. Jade begins recording her debut album, My Name is Samantha Jade, with producers such as Darkchild, Timbaland, Max Martin and Stargate. The following three years with the label, the recording and subsequent release of Samantha's debut album My Name is Samantha Jade was canceled. In 2007, Jade co-wrote and recorded backing vocals for Ashley Tisdail's "Positivity" song from her debut album Headstrong.
In 2008, Samantha terminated her contract with Jive Records and continued to make music independently with the American label Affinity West Entertainment. In the same year, Jade made her acting debut, playing one of the roles in the movie "Adventures in the Caribbean". The film was released in 2009. The following year, Samantha recorded the song with DJ David Guetta and Luke Laidback for David Guetta's 4th album One Love, which was released in August. The track was not included in the standard edition tracklist, but it did become a bonus track. In July 2009, Jade released her third single, "Secret", which flopped in the charts. The video clip for the single was directed by Valerie Babiyan. In August 2009, Jade performed at Kerri-Anne to promote the single. In November 2010, Jade returned to Perth and began working at her father's plant.
On December 7, 2012 her debut album with the same name "Samantha Jade" was released. The album debuted at # 3 on the ARIA Albums Chart and was certified gold with over 35,000 copies sold.
