The group was founded by members of the Till Ulenspiegel group, which by that time had broken up. The debut album "Mills" includes several songs, the arranger of which was Ruslan Komlyakov, the leader of "Till Ulenspiegel".
The group made its breakthrough into the mainstream in 2005 thanks to Nashe Radio and the Chartova Dozen hit parade. Fans of "Melnitsa" organized a flash mob and brought the song "Night Mare" to the top of the hit parade. Since then, "Melnitsa" has been a constant participant in the playlist of "Our Radio", their songs often win in the charts.
In the same 2005, there were changes in the structure of the Mill. Several members split off and formed a group called Sylphs. Then the second vocalist, Alevtina Leontyeva, appeared, who took part in the recording of the album "Call of Blood" (2006). Alevtina left the group in 2007.
In 2009, Mill recorded a new album, Wild Herbs. In the same year, a collection of hits "Mill: Best Songs" was released.
In parallel with her work in the "Mill", Helavisa performs solo, for a long time amateur recordings of her concerts were distributed. The first "official" solo album, Leopard in the City, was released in 2009.
In 2011, the group released the single "Christmas Songs", which included two new songs - "Take care of yourself" and "Sheep". The single was released in a limited edition for the band's Christmas concerts and will not be released or reissued.
On April 28, 2012 the release of the fifth album "Angelophrenia" took place. On the same day, Melnitsa presented a new album in Moscow, in the Arena Moscow club. Also released was a DVD recording of the Wild Grasses presentation concert and the Znak four box set - a reissue of the group's first four albums. As a bonus, Sign of the Four included the songs “Take Care” and “Sheep” included in the 2011 Christmas single.
In November, the first video of the group and material for the second video from the group's concert in Izhevsk on November 25, 2012 were filmed.
On January 11, 2013, the Christmas mini-album "My Joy" was released, including 5 songs.
