Musician, Songstress, Actress
Real name: Лайма Станиславовна Вайкуле
Genre: Pop music  Russian pop

Laima Vakule was born on March 30, 1954 in Riga.
The girl dreamed of being a doctor, despite her obvious singing talent. School disciplines were easy for Lyme, and for the first few years she was a solid excellent student. However, then she was carried away by amateur performances (she studied vocals in the Riga Palace of Culture), and the exact sciences faded into the background. From the age of 11, Laima Vaikule has already participated in numerous competitions.
At the age of 14, the future famous singer took part in the republican competition for young vocalists and became its diploma student. However, the parents reacted to their daughter's success with enviable calmness, considering her passion for music a frivolous matter. In 1969, Lyme entered medical school. But soon she left him and devoted herself entirely to music.

At the age of 15, the composer Raimonds Pauls drew attention to Lyme, who in those years led the pop orchestra. He invited her to his team, promising to make her a soloist in a year, but Lyme refused. She didn't want to wait a whole year.
In 1979 Laima Vaikule began performing in the famous variety show "Juras perle" in Jurmala. Moreover, she herself staged dances, invented costumes, recruited musicians in her own team. The show that Lyme performed in those years was considered one of the most colorful in the entire Baltic region.

In 1984 she graduated from the directing department of GITIS.

In 1985, Laima made her first appearance on Central Television in the New Year's "Ogonyok" with a dance and song miniature "Fly agaric".

In addition to the western repertoire and a number of contemporary songs, accompanied by the instrumental ensemble Laima (artistic director Robert Albrecht), she began to perform Latvian songs, in particular Raimond Pauls Verokoko (in the Russian version it was sung by Valery Leontiev - Verooko). The singer was noticed by the famous songwriter Ilya Reznik. He offered her a new song "Night Fire" for recording on the radio, and the singer got not only on the radio, but also on the television program "Song-86". Then, in 1986, in a Soviet-Italian concert of pop stars, Laima Vaikule performed together with Leontyev a new song "Vernissage" (Pauls, Reznik). By New 1987 Laima Vaikule recorded one more song by the same authors "It's not evening yet." In February 1987 she took part in the author's evening of R. Pauls at the State Central Concert Hall "Russia", after the broadcast of the concert on TV Laima Vaikule received all-Union fame.
In 1989, Stan Cornelius invited Lyme to the United States, where she spent 7 extremely fruitful months recording at Michael Sembello's studio.

In 1991, L. Vaikule went to work in Japan, where she signed the largest contract for herself to date - for $ 95 thousand.

In 1997, Vaikule prepares a new program with musician Y. Varum (father of singer Angelica Varum, hitherto the only performer of his songs), again records a new disc in America, already in Russian, and gives many concerts.

In 1999, the concert "Lime in the style of tango" took place in the State Central Concert Hall "Russia", in 2001 - "To the XXI century - with loved ones." A bright show, to which, as the singer says, she went all her life.
