Lamb

Band
Country: England
Carier start: 1996
Genre: Electronic
The Manchester group Lamb is the brightest representative of the first wave of trip-hop, which came after the success of the "big trinity" (Massive Attack, Tricky, Portished). The core of the band was the singer Lou Rhodes and the electronic engineer Andy Barlow, although at concerts Lamb sometimes grew into a sextet. The group's first album was released in 1996, and the most notable hit from there was the piercingly sad song "Gorecki", written under the impression of the "Symphony of Songs of Sorrow" by Czech composer Henryk Gorecki. Trip-hop as read by Barlow and Rhodes was practically devoid of the hip-hop component, but it was often diluted with jazz, drum and bass and even IDM. The contrabass and string section became a distinctive chart of Lamb's arrangements.

Lamb has never been pop stars - for the mass audience, there was too much sadness and anguish in their songs. If their records hit the charts, they usually dangled in the bottom of the first hundred. However, in the circles of trip-hop lovers, the group has a cult status. The songs "Cotton Wool", "What Sound", "Sweet" were included in many trip-hop compilations, and the band's most republished track was "Gabriel", which fell into the category of chill-out classics. After releasing 4 albums, Lou and Andy suspended the group's activities and took up solo projects. Rhodes recorded several acoustic records, Barlow went into DJing. However, in 2009, Lamb reunited and made a small tour of major festivals, including Big Chill and Glastonbury. The band decided not to record new material, but joint performances in the future are not ruled out: "It seems to me that our story has not reached its final point yet," Andy Barlow wrote in his blog after the concert that ended the "reunion" tour.
